Rookwood Road
Rookwood Road is a short road, which crosses the railway on a narrow path. It leads from Arden Road to Alexander Road. It is part of an ancient ridgeway track from today's Broad Road to Wynford Road.
On the west side is the Birmingham City Mission site, originally built as St. Mary's Church House of 1908, and occupied since about 1983 by the City Mission. The original entrance was on Arden Road. Beyond there is a short terrace of houses, numbers 10 to 16. They date from around 1967. There are only four: applications were made for eight and six, but 10 to 16 were built.
On the east side of the road is a care home, with its entrance on Sherbourne Road (number 4). Beyond there are seven flats, originally built around 1988 for the recovering mentally ill.
The National Library of Scotland website has 25-inch maps up to the 1930s, and 1:1250 and 1:2500 maps up until 1973. There is also an option to compare Edwardian and current maps of various kinds using a slider. For this use the geo-referenced maps option. This is useful for plotting the exact location of changes.
